Mathematics and Statistics: understand them, use them
Mathematics and Statistics: understand them, use them This course is aimed especially at any student admitted to the university, who intends to successfully face a course of Mathematics, Statistics or, in general, of quantitative content during the first courses of their university studies. The course will also be useful for anyone who wants or needs to acquire a basic knowledge in quantitative techniques. For them, the following concepts are addressed: mathematics, real numbers, basic functions, derivatives, introduction to integral calculus and applications, matrices, determinants and systems of equations. It is therefore an introductory course, which will be very useful as a basis for quantitative subjects. We think that the course is ideal for new students at the university, but also for anyone interested in knowing the basics of mathematics and that, in addition, it allows a first approach to data processing.

It is a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) of mathematics and statistics at a basic level. Its goal is that students of new access to the university settle the basic knowledge acquired during their pre-university studies in quantitative matters, specifically, mathematics and statistics.
This course is specially aimed to any student admitted to the university, who pretends to face a course in mathematics and/or statistics, during her university studies.
Also, this course can be useful for anyone who, at any time, wants or needs to acquire basic knowledge of mathematical or statistical nature, thus opening the doors to a world in which data is continuously generated.
The program is the following:
• Topic 1: Real numbers
• Topic 2: Sum and product operators
• Topic 3: Basic functions
• Topic 4: One-dimensional descriptive statistics. Position and dispersion measures
• Topic 5: Derivatives and applications
• Topic 6: Two-dimensional descriptive statistics. Regression
• Topic 7: Two-dimensional descriptive statistics. Correlation
• Topic 8: Introduction to integral calculus and applications.
• Topic 9: Matrices, determinants and systems of equations
